Visual Text Editor Menu items missing – solved

This one just about drove me crazy.  I wanted to jump in and write an article about a Reno Window Tinting Company that I have had dealings with.  Just giving them a nice internet plug.  But when I went to use the post editor in WordPress, the buttons were simple and none of the features I was use to seeing were available.

So, I scoured the web looking for a solution.  It took at least 45 minutes of looking and then realized that what I was looking for was totally wrong.  You see, it was not that the buttons were missing, but that it was in TEXT mode and the buttons to change to VISUAL mode were what were missing.  Time for a new Google search.  And I found a note where someone had the same issue.  It was damn simple:  In your user profile, you have a checkbox to turn off Visual Editor.  This removes the TEXT/VISUAL tabs and leaves you with the buttons that are shown above.  Jeez!

So once you have that damn thing unchecked, go back to your editor and everything is there.

Fixed.  But damn. That was so obscure that it drove me crazy.  And, of course, it ate up all my time that I would have had to write a nice article for Reno Tahoe Window Tint.  So, I’ll just leave this note about them – nice guys that do good work.  If you need some car windows tinted and you’re located in the Reno / Tahoe area, give them a call.  I have a feeling you’ll like them too.
