The Greatest Restaurants for Dining in the British Virgin Islands

british virgin islands saba rock

The British Virgin Islands have always been a popular destination for tourists, largely because of the climate and many attractions. They are comprised of a few different islands, with each having its own theme that sets it apart from the other ones. There is one thing that all three of them do have in common, though.

Each one has restaurants, because people still have to eat no matter where they are. With the British Virgin Islands having so much demand, only the best of the best can keep their restaurants afloat here. These are the top three that have done exemplary jobs so far.

First of all, Saba Rock is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. Each one of these restaurants is great in one way or another, but Saba Rock is quite literally an island paradise. Only accessible by boat, this restaurant in the British Virgin Islands is a spectacle that all people should see, if possible. If you take the time to read a lot of the great online reviews, as I do, then you will see that there are a lot of people talking about the friendly atmosphere.

So that is where I will begin. As soon as you get off the boat and step foot on Saba Rock, you are greeted with a friendly smile from one of the staff members. They are all very good at their jobs, so don’t expect any slip ups or anything like that. As popular as Saba Rock may be, I have never found any trouble in finding a place to sit down. It is also a pretty roomy place, so even during the busy times of the day I am sure there is still plenty of space for you.

Once you are seated, then you will be treated to the wide array of different food and drink offered at Saba Rock. I have a few favorite dishes here, and two of them are lobster. Even if you think that you don’t like seafood, I would still highly encourage you to try it. If it doesn’t turn out to be your cup of tea, there are still a ton of other things for you to try. Plus there’s all of the amazing desserts.

In any event, my favorites are the conch fritters, the Anegada lobster, and the Caribbean lobster. If you vacation to the Caribbean and do not plan on eating any seafood, then you are completely missing out on a whole new experience. As for the drinks, I always try to taste something new so I don’t have any favorites specifically. If you can dream of it, I am sure that the bartender will serve it. He literally works in the British Virgin Islands, after all.

Any of the very helpful staff members should be able to help you decide on something that you will like. From my personal experience, I have found that they are very good at their jobs. One activity that I really enjoy watching whenever I visit Saba Rock is the tarpon feeding. It gives Saba Rock a unique feel, as I doubt you can watch any kind of fish feeding at most restaurants anywhere else in the world. After all, they aren’t located in the middle of the ocean.

There are also numerous aquatic creatures that you can look at around the island, like a moray eel. Unfortunately, Saba Rock was damaged in a hurricane not too long ago and it is still in the process of being rebuilt. If you are interested in dining at this fine establishment, you will have to be a little patient. But believe me, it will be well worth the wait.

Second on my list is Cocomaya, an Asian fusion restaurant. This restaurant is found just south of Spanish Town, in the British Virgin Islands. My fondest memory of this restaurant is the last time I ate here, as I was able to watch the Caribbean sunset as I ate my delicious food. When you think about attractive restaurants, Cocomaya should be the first one that comes to your mind. Not only is the interior beautifully decorated, but it’s also not overwhelming with the decor.

Some restaurants that I eat in look like a Dr. Seuss illustration because they have so much weird artwork that they think will bring more customers in. An important topic that should also be mentioned about these restaurants is the cleanliness. Obviously the staff is going to keep their restaurant clean, since it’s such a nice place with professional workers. But the staff at Cocomaya really go out of their way to do a nice job, and I appreciate their integrity.

Even when it doesn’t appear that anybody is around, I have witnessed them go the extra mile to ensure Cocomaya’s customers are satisfied. That is what should be expected of all restaurants, but it seems more prevalent whenever I dine in the British Virgin Islands. When it comes to the Caribbean, you can tell a good restaurant from a bad one purely from the positive reviews alone.

The third restaurant that I would definitely recommend is Hog Heaven. If you enjoy meat, then there is absolutely not reason not to eat here. Hog Heaven is also located in Virgin Gorda, just like Cocomaya. There are tons of other great restaurants nearby, and it was tough to decide on the three that I put on this list. Just like the other restaurants, Hog Heaven serves delicious food and the staff will always find a way to put a smile on your face.

If you don’t believe me about the sanitation part, you should see Hog Heaven’s bathroom firsthand! I first ate at this restaurant in Virgin Gorda a few years ago, when I was trying out British Virgin Island sailing charters for the first time. I was unsure about the whole experience, but I can say without a doubt that Hog Heaven alone made the entire trip worth it.

And I had twice as much fun on the charter boat! All of my opinions have been shared time and time again by others who enjoy vacations to the Caribbean, which is made abundantly clear by the number of amazing online reviews. Whatever these restaurants are doing, it works.

Clearwater Florida Restaurants With Reviews

Clearwater Fl restaurants

Pearly’s Beach Grill

It’s time to head to Florida for some city exploring.  I’m flying into Miami at the end of April and we’re planning on hopping from city to city for 3 weeks.  I’m pretty excited to see the gulf coast and to check out towns near Tampa and Clearwater.

A lot of my friends have asked me why I’m doing these trips to Florida.  Well, frankly, it’s because I want to see if I like it enough to move there.  Currently, I’m land locked in a Western state and I really want to be somewhere that I can easily go sailing from.  From what I can tell, Clearwater or a town close to there, might be the right place for me.

I’m figuring that I could buy a condo for 1/2 what my condo in Nevada would sell for, and then spend my money on a nice 40’ sailboat.  And to top it off, I could possibly get a place with a boat slip right outside.  That would be my dream!

I’m not aiming at any category of restaurant.  I want to try everything from gourmet food trucks up to fine dining restaurants.  So, I hope that I get some ideas from people that live in or visit the Clearwater area to tell me what’s what.

So far, I’ve decided on a handful of restaurants and beach bars that I have to go to.  Top of my list is…

restaurants clearwater floridaPearly’s Beach Eats on Papaya St in Clearwater.  This place looks so awesome.  And the pictures of the food that restaurant patrons have taken is making me hungry.  So I looked at their online restaurant reviews and they look stellar.  This place is certainly worth grabbing a lunch from.  So, let’s do this thing!  I will be there, sitting under an umbrella, sipping a nice cold drink, wearing a tank top and flip flops.  I figure that I need to have the right attire!

clearwater restaurants cajunI need some cajun & creole!  That’s why Crispy Cajun made my list of Clearwater restaurants to try.  Can anyone say gumbo?  I certainly will.  These guys have a nice little location at 2097 Drew St., Clearwater.  The most expensive meal on their menu is $16.99 and the choices around $10 will blow your mind.  I seriously want to try their fried chicken, catfish, gumbo, and jambalaya.  Bring it all!!!  I do want to comment that I really like their website and the online menu is one of the better that I’ve seen from any Clearwater FL restaurant.  Kudos.

Seems to me that there is no fine dining restaurants in Clearwater.  I am a little surprised that the really high end dining is not apparent in Clearwater.  Looks like you have to run into Tampa to hit Bern’s Steakhouse Restaurant or something.  I have a buddy in the restaurant hood cleaning business in Clearwater.  I think I’ll double check with him to see what he thinks of fine dining on the Florida Gulf Coast.  Maybe he’ll know of something that I am overlooking.

So, instead of looking at Yelp, I looked to Google and did a search for ‘Fine Dining Clearwater FL’ and I came up with a few restaurants that are not full blown high-end, but pretty close and without packing the fine dining restaurant prices.  I’m going to look into each one of these eventually. For now, here is a list of the ones for me to check closer.

Forlini’s Restaurant.  Italian food and it sounds pretty good.  Biggest worry I have is that the restaurant reviews are not amazing.  3.7 out of 5 stars.  Hmm.  I hope somebody that has eaten here will give a note in the comments as to whether we should or shouldn’t try this restaurant. I’m not planning on being in Clearwater too long, so I need to make sure I’m excited about the restaurants that we try.

clearwater florida restaurantsHow about Caretta on the Gulf?  This is another restaurant in Clearwater that nears the level of fine dining restaurants but does not have the high prices.  Apparently, this restaurant is at a resort called Sandpearl.  It is located at 500 Mandalay Bay Ave.  They claim to be Clearwater’s only AAA Four-Diamond restaurant.  But, they serve meals all day long and with a fairly pricey dinner menu.  Not sure if I’ll go there or not.

The Maritana Grill is another Clearwater area restaurant which is located in a hotel.  Online restaurant reviews for Maritana are stellar and I like the decor of the hotel.  So, maybe this is another one worth visiting.  It’s located at 3400 Gulf Blvd in St. Pete Beach Florida.

florida clearwater restaurantI found an interesting twist in Clearwater restaurants with Yacht Sensation.  Apparently it has fine dining and it’s on a boat?  It’s a little confusing but it seems that they do Tampa Bay tours while you dine.  There are not many reviews, and the review rating is a little low – so it’s hard to use the internet to judge this one. From what I’ve seen, parking is very expensive ($25) and that cocktails are way too expensive (like $20 for a mixed drink).  So I think I’m going to pass on this one.  Even though it is one of the only restaurants in Clearwater that its listed on Yelp as a Clearwater fine dining restaurant.

Running out of things to say

We all knew this day would come eventually, the day when I run out of things to ramble about. Luckily for you, the title was actually just clickbait. Too bad I don’t work for CNN, because that was fake news. About as fake as margarine. My foods teacher last year told me that margarine is only a few molecules away from plastic. So don’t throw it in fire, otherwise you’ll be polluting the earth. It can’t be as bad as cigarettes though. Big tobacco is just too large of an industry to be taken down by the earth’s atmosphere and its problems with pollution.

I watched The Insider with Al Pacino and Russell Crowe and it details the kind of threat and extortion that people go through whenever they disagree with people in high managerial positions. Corporate executives are evil and stuff. Or at least they were in this case. I don’t believe all that big corporation being evil and bringing us down oppression stuff. There’s something stuck between my teeth, and it feels like a strand of some sort. It could be hair, but I doubt it. That’d be pretty disgusting. I just ate lunch at Qdoba with my dad, and their food isn’t terrible.

Their queso is awesome, though. I always get a wet burrito, where they put the sauce on top of your burrito, because that way it isn’t super dry or anything. However, they aren’t better than super taqueria. Super taqueria has the best chicken chimichangas that don’t come with sauce on them. There’s a place downtown called The Cantina that makes really good chimichangas, but they put a sauce on to that resembles an enchilada sauce and it makes them taste amazing. I could ramble for hours and hours without rime or reason. That’s pretty much what I do for these blog posts. Nobody cares about anything that I have to say usually, but it could just be that I’m not much of a talker. One thing that I do talk about openly is how good of a miami hood cleaning service there is to be honest.
